A Study of Traditional Indian School in the Present Day Context from an Architectural View Point

Abstract


Throughout India, Traditional Indian Schools have a great impact on children as they are like the dumped unmolded clay. It is the educational system of these schools which moulds the clay into shapes. The immediate environment also plays a vital role for the process of learning which starts from the early schools including ashramas and maddrassas. The built habitat during the early traditional schooling paved the path for the whole life of a child. In early schools, open interactive spaces played an important role where nature was an important source for transfer of knowledge. Presently, there is a lack of co-ordination between the built and unbuilt spaces along with immediate surrounding fabric. In this context, an attempt has been made to study and investigate the spatial planning, the relationship between built and inbuilt spaces and also the pattern of knowledge sharing.
