Abstract

This paper describes about the construction of Low Cost Linear Variable Differential Transformer (LVDT) sensor and its calibration. The probe of iron core of the constructed LVDT is 4.5 inch long and 0.5 inch diameter while the iron core is 8 inch length and 1 inch in diameter. The performance of LVDT had conducted by measuring the voltage 6.35 V with the help of 1 cm known surface displacement. The constant of the known surface displacement from this is used to measure the unknown surface waviness in accordance with voltage. The performance accuracy of this sensor varies from 97.6% to 99.96%. The cost of the constructed LVDT is about $28 which is very low as compared to available market sensor.
